The story
It begins as a prank. On a dating app, Jake swipes on his best friend’s mom without expecting anything, and the match comes through before he can cancel it. A single shared night leaves him with a secret he can’t take back. It gets messier when the mom’s daughter appears already knowing the whole story, leaving Jake caught between the two of them.
What works
Starting on a dating app is a modern, believable way into a familiar fantasy, and it makes Jake’s mess entirely his own fault. That matters: there is no snowstorm or family holiday trapping him, since he made this choice himself.
The daughter powers the second half of the setup. A secret that someone else knows turns into leverage, and the synopsis doesn’t reveal what she plans to do with it. Its mention of a door that won’t stay shut suggests the affair keeps restarting rather than wrapping up tidily.
The drawback is that it resembles several other series in the catalogue about a friend’s or partner’s mom. If you have seen those, the pattern will feel familiar. Even so, Candy keeps us curious with every new spin, and we are glad to keep spending there.
