The story in short
Kyle’s father has remarried and immediately left for the summer, and the title makes it plain that his new wife, Skye, is young. Home alone with Kyle, Skye lays down a few simple rules: sit, no touching, only watch. As soon as her best friend visits, however, the rulebook goes straight out the window.
What makes it work: the rules turn
Its structure is its greatest asset. Skye starts out fully in control with strict limits, and her friend’s arrival is the pivot that takes things past look-but-don’t-touch. That clean two-act shape fits five episodes, and the friend gives Skye a second character to play off.
Originality is a different story. An absent dad, a young stepmom and a long summer ahead are close to standard Candy fare, and beyond the rules the synopsis gives nothing that sets it apart. There is no rival and no deadline like Dad returning, so whatever tension exists depends on Skye and on the moment her friend shows up.

My Stepmom Is 22 handles a familiar story with confidence. The move from rules to no rules, along with the best friend, gives it more momentum than the title hints at, though surprises are scarce.
