The story
Dasha’s glamorous life is funded by a boyfriend who is close to going bankrupt. Rather than cutting back, she targets his best friend, a man who does not rattle easily. The twist is in how he responds: he refuses to pursue her, and that restraint turns the dynamic around, drawing her into a secret she never planned for.
What works
This premise brings a real character arc with it. Dasha starts out in control, pushed by a clear and fairly ruthless motive, and the synopsis hints that she ends up on the weaker side of the balance. Five-episode series seldom try that sort of reversal; most just establish a situation and let it play out.
It also avoids family taboo entirely. There are no step-relatives, just money, friendship and a woman sure she knows how the game works. The engine of the story is the best friend refusing to play along, a refreshing change from leads who give in at the first opportunity. Stories like this are exactly why we gladly keep spending on Candy.
What holds it back
