The premise
A young woman turns to therapy in the hope of getting over her obsession with the man who lives in her mother’s house. It does not go to plan. She discovers that her therapist, her mother and her two sisters are already shaping what he desires, almost as if it had all been written in advance. The synopsis says nothing more, and without any character names even the man at the centre stays a mystery.
Stranger than the title lets on
The title promises one more stepsister story, and Candy has no shortage of those, with 19 series carrying the Sister tag. What arrives is weirder and bolder. The therapist is a player rather than a helper, and the family seems to be working from a script, which gives the series a hint of psychological thriller. The heroine is not the one hiding a secret; she is the one left out of it. We love it when Candy takes a familiar tag somewhere this unexpected.
That ambition is also the risk. Fitting a heroine, two sisters, a mother and a therapist into five episodes is a lot to ask, and the synopsis never says whether the “script” is a real conspiracy or just a turn of phrase. If a simple forbidden-attraction story is what you are after, the cast could feel overcrowded.

On paper, Step-Sister’s Secret is more intriguing than most of Candy’s Sister titles: the therapy setup and a plot that pulls in the whole family promise real twists. Whether five episodes can deliver on that is still open, and the two free episodes are the cheap way to find out.
