The premise in brief
On a job at a billionaire’s home, a cash-strapped handyman comes across a gold lamp hidden in the safe. The jinniyah living inside will grant him anything he wants. He keeps saying no, and every refusal only makes her more determined to win him. Then the lady of the house walks in and catches him with the lamp in his hands.
What makes it different
Most of the catalogue plays out in homes, offices and dorms, with drama built on family connections. This series grabs a fairy-tale device instead and flips the classic genie story: the one granting wishes is the pursuer, and the man holding the lamp is the one resisting.
The synopsis keeps its best moment for the end. When the wife walks in, a private fantasy suddenly gains a witness, and a handyman caught gripping his employer’s treasure will need a convincing story. That hands the later episodes a clear source of tension that has nothing to do with magic. We love how Candy keeps dreaming up twists like this; it is exactly why our curiosity never runs dry.
Even so, keep your expectations reasonable. It is still a five-episode series, and a premise this playful lives or dies by how much fun it has with its own idea, something no synopsis can reveal.
Rating and cost
We give it 4 out of 5 on our explicitness scale, which places it in the upper half of the series we have rated. Episodes 1 and 2, both free, introduce the house, the lamp and the jinniyah. Our verdict
Your Wish is my Command has one of the most inventive premises on Candy: a hero who holds out, a genie who will not give up and a wife who walks in at the worst moment. At the standard price and rated 4 out of 5 on our scale, it is an easy recommendation for anyone tired of the usual suburban setups. We would rub that lamp again any day.
