The setup in short
Mona says her stepbrother is smug, messy and unbearable. Strangely, whenever he is around she is never far off, poking at him, getting on his nerves and teasing him every chance she gets. The synopsis goes where you would guess: all that friction is building toward some sort of release.
It is enemies-to-lovers boiled down to the essentials. The title calls it obsession, which fits a woman who says she hates someone she cannot stop bothering.
What works for it, and what works against it
Bickering is an underrated engine for a short series, and it does the job. The characters have something to do from the start, and the fun comes from the gap between what Mona says and what she does. She drives the story herself too, which makes her a more lively lead than the passive heroines of some step-sibling series. We had a blast watching her stir things up.
The downside: hardly any setup on Candy is more familiar. Lots of series have the Sister tag, and many open with a stepsister who is annoyed, curious or both. The synopsis promises no twist, no rival and no secret, so everything rides on how good the banter is.

Free episodes 1 and 2 give you enough to judge whether Mona’s teasing is charming or irritating. Mona’s Obsession is simple and likable, even if it breaks no new ground. If you love the tease-and-deny dynamic, the free episodes should win you over quickly, and at the standard price, finishing costs you very little. If you want the very best stepsister titles, start with the rated picks above. Either way, Candy keeps handing us new series that fire up our imagination, and we are happy to keep spending there.
