The premise
Candy sets it up in a few lines. Ava is hosting girls’ night, and her boyfriend is banished to the bedroom for the evening. Twenty minutes into the movie she is fast asleep on the couch. Camilla, who is both Ava’s best friend and the boyfriend’s stepsister, slips away from the group with fun in mind and a line that says it all: “You’re allowed now, stepbro.”
Why this new series grabbed us
The stepsister corner of Candy is crowded, and most of those stories hinge on a secret shared by two people. Boys Not Allowed raises the stakes by putting a whole room of friends and a sleeping girlfriend just outside the door. Camilla is not a stranger slipping in: she is the best friend Ava trusts and the stepsister he grew up around, which makes every step she takes towards that bedroom a double betrayal.
The title turns into the joke of the series. The one rule of the night is that boys stay out, and the person who breaks it is one of the girls. The poster sells the mood well: Camilla up front in a satin slip, the rest of girls’ night lounging behind her, and nobody looking remotely innocent. Honestly, not even the big adult studios dream up a setup this sharp in five short episodes.
